This is a checklist for professionals who come into contact with individuals who suspect they may be in a forced marriage abroad or victims of harm abroad. Please ensure they have your permission to contact the authorities or any other professionals who may be involved with them and have information about their situation.<\/span><\/p>\n For Canadian citizens<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0:<\/span><\/p>\n Information to gather, if possible, before departure:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n It is important to establish means of communication and possibly determine a code or password to ensure that no one interferes with communications. Discuss with her the possibility of writing a letter stating that in the event of her absence (specify the date), she authorizes a designated person to report her disappearance to the authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n Finally, if she wishes, she can get help from border services officers at the airport. They work in collaboration with the police. She will then have to explain her situation and may be able to be taken to a shelter.
